ROSA GOES DANCING  (c) 1987 Monica E. Gómez

Verse 1:  By the light of the moon, Rosa steps into the water.
She’ll be on the other side soon.
She’ll send for her mother and daughter.
The river leads to someplace where people say that life is fair.
Rosa will find her chance there, on the other side.
But the river is a dark wet beast searching for its nightly feast
coming from south of the border.

Refrain:  Rosa came from Delicias, a city that’s simple and small.
The boys go to all of the dances, and Rosa had danced with them all.
But one dance had led to a daughter. One boy took Rosa at will.
And now as she moves ‘cross the water, she thinks...Rosa might go dancing still.

Verse 2:
By the light of the moon, Rosa moves through the water.
She’ll be on the other side soon. She’ll send for her mother and daughter.
The river leads to a land of dreams, but no one hears when Rosa screams.
The beast with stripes of bright moon beams sweeps her off her feet.
Rosa feels it tug her legs. It won’t listen when she begs
through the taste of brown water.

Verse 3:  By the light of the moon, Rosa follows the water.
She’ll be on the other side soon. She won’t see her mother or daughter.
The river leads to its dark lair. Those who dare to dream sleep there,
knowing life was never fair on the other side.
And Rosa’s begging has now ceased. She dances gently with the beast,
turning her back to the moonlight.

Final Refrain:  Rosa came from Delicias, a city that’s simple and small.
The boys go to all of the dances, and Rosa had danced with them all.
But one dance had led to a daughter. One boy took Rosa at will
and now as she follows the water...Rosa goes dancing, still.
