CROW’S FEET  (c) 1997 Monica E. Gómez

Verse 1:  Crow stood on my face, and in each footprint’s place
left lines to tell the world about my age.
I would not erase one single furrowed trace
of my time spent with the sage.

Refrain:  Crow’s feet walk down the mountain
Crow’s feet step out of my eyes.
Carved into the rock and sand
Crow’s feet carry tears to the valley from the skies.

Verse 2:  I shade my eyes with my hand and look out across the land
where dark-winged shadows bring the rain.
Crow’s feet mark the spot where the earth and I have not
escaped wind, water, time or pain.
Refrain

Bridge:
Crow’s feet dance and my feet run
this old woman’s having fun.
Crows can fly and I can too
so here’s the song I’ll sing for you.

Verse 3:  Sun moves to the west, where day’s colors are the best
when her glow begins to fade.
I laugh with delight as the earth puts on the night
and her wrinkles fill with shade.
