STORM BEFORE THE CALM (c) 1994 Monica E. Gomez

1st Verse: I was staring out the window, standing at the kitchen sink
when the tears began to gather and I didn’t even blink.

2nd Verse: They were rolling down my face like the rain rolls down the glass.
Light and shadows crossed the heavens and I knew the storm would pass.

Bridge: Then you felt the silence, and you saw my face was wet,
so you told me, “Stop crying.”  And I turned and said, “Not yet.”

Refrain:
Trying to stop a woman’s tears is like sending back the rain,
trying to scare away the night or wish away the pain.
You can battle with the darkness, but as surely as the dawn,
a woman knows her tears are just the storm before the calm.

3rd Verse: So when you see my passion flowing from my knowing eyes,
you can let me know you love me.  You can even ask me, “Why?”

4th Verse:
But the answer’s in the landscape and the ever-changing skies
and it’s in the space between us each time a woman cries.
