SOMEHOW THE ROAD  (c) 1999, 2003 Monica E. Gómez, ASCAP

Verse 1:  Somehow the road gets the tangles out,
unknots my thoughts, relaxes my doubt.
My path unfurls ‘cross a straight, even plain,
‘n what once seemed simple, seems simple again.

Refrain:
The road doesn’t hurry, the road doesn’t wait.
It’s everywhere at once, never early, nor late.
My time and my place are right here, right now,
when I’m needing answers, it’s just somehow the road.

Verse 2:
Black asphalt ribbon, white stripe on my right,
signs flicker past as I drive through the night.
Mirror reflects what I’m leaving behind
while I’m arriving at my peace of mind.

Bridge:  It’s the stillness of the motion, the lifting of the load
in the moment on the highway, it’s just somehow the road.
Refrain

Verse 3:  Somehow the road leads me to understand,
when my wheels are turning, the wheel in my hand
steers through the humming of some secret code
when I’m going nowhere, it’s somehow the road.
